Yesterday was a great day. An and Chris were married in two intimate ceremonies. In the morning was the Vietnamese ceremony at An’s family’s home and the Western ceremony was held at the Royal Ambassador. Kevin and Lucy came out to help with all the events of their wonderful wedding.
An and Chris are both teachers, hence, the title of this post
. And because they are teachers, they have to maintain their reputation of being tough teachers…and not push-overs. It’s funny when An says things like, “We can’t let our kids (in school) see us cry. To them, crying is a sign of weakness…” Well, with all the emotions running through this day, there was just no way they could hold it all in. They ‘cracked’ as An calls it. It’s ok…it happens to the best of us![]()
There was so much going on this day that I could probably write a novel on it. But I’ll post a few more images than usual, since it’s heavy wedding season right now and there’s lots to blog
Here are some moments from yesterday…
I haven’t seen Karen for a few months…that’s a long time ! I was going through a little withdrawal and was happy to see her. She looked great and just came off a nice Caribbean Cruise with her family. She did her magic on her bride, not that there was much to be done here…An is a natural beauty.

Here’s An taking a peak at Chris outside…all decked out in a traditional Vietnamese wedding attire. He pulled it off quite nicely![]()

The family dog, Muffin, was decked out and ready to party ! Cute !

The Vietnamese Tea Ceremony at the house:

As a sign of respect, tea is served to the parents and the parents give their blessings and well wishes to the children. This part is pretty emotional, especially for Asian families, because, for the most part, we generally are not too affectionate. I don’t know what was being said between An and her parents, since it was spoken in Vietnamese, but I didn’t need to understand…I could feel what was said.

We headed off to The Royal Ambassador to get ready for the wedding. That morning, I finally got a chance to meet Khiem and Sonia, who contacted me last year for their wedding. Unfortunately, I was booked for next weekend….yes they are getting married next weekend ! Back-to-back weddings for An’s family ! Khiem did an awesome job ironing his sisters dress before the wedding. I was impressed ! Sonia was great too — held the dress, stood there and looked pretty![]()

Another beautiful bouquet from Sylvia. An loved the bouquet ! Especially the peonies, which was a total surprise !

Here’s Julia and Deborah giving her sister a hand…or two…

I met Maria earlier in the day. Here she is, siting with Chris’ wonderful parents, photographing me photographing her![]()

Chris’ family had a chance to partake in the Tea Ceremony also.

Off for some relaxed portraits…

And their beautiful first dance…

What an amazing time Kevin, Lucy and I had with everyone. But I wouldn’t have expected anything less fun from these two and their wonderful families. I have to give a big THANK YOU to Lisa who referred me to An.
I saw so many of my friends at this wedding. The fabulous Karen Chen-Richardson was up bright and early taking care of the hair and make-up. Sylvia took care of the floral designs. My favorite, beautiful, and glowing, planner Leena and her associate, Holly, of Let’s Party Consultants had the event AHEAD of schedule ! What a rare thing that is ! Lisa Ng took care of the music all night, along with my future bride, Nadia ! What a surprise it was to see Nadia there. Many, many thanks to all of them. I seriously love these girls!
Congratulations again to An+Chris ! You are two of the most amazing people I have ever met…EVER ! Although the wedding has ended, there’s no question our friendship has not. I’m looking forward to our next multi-hour chat and getting kicked out of Starbucks because of closing time![]()

Much love,
-Joee
