Ok…have you ever met a couple that is soooo perfect for each other that it kinda makes you sick ? Well, Lily and Colin are one of those couples.
Lily, a Graphics Designer, and Colin, a school Guidance Counsellor, met not too long ago at Church. Lily was ready to head off for a missionary and Colin happened to be there sending everyone off. They happened to lock eyes…and here we are…
Francis, Heidi and I were so honored to be part of their wedding celebrations, where the theme of the day must have been moisture or something. It rained like crazy that day…people cried like mad…and poor Colin sweated so much that day, although it was the most comfortable day (temperature wise) by far this wedding season.
Heidi and I started the day at Lily’s brothers place where I saw Satine for the second time in three weeks. She’s awesome and was doing her magic as usual. I remember seeing Lily through the reflection of the mirror and I just said, “WOW !”. She was a fantastic canvas to work with already, so it was not a surprise that she looked sooooooo beautiful !

Francis hung out with Colin and the guys that morning, armed with giant golf umbrella’s in anticipation of the downpour. Colin was lookin’ sharp !

They had a beautiful ceremony at Timothy Eaton Memorial Church in Forest Hill where probably 200 of their guests attended to witness these two tie the knot. It was a wonderful ceremony that was officiated by their pastor, Kevin. That was a special touch.

After the ceremony, we had to make the call to either head downtown for some coverage for their relaxed portraits…or go with where we had our permit at. We decided to chance it. After photographing so many weddings over the last 6 years, you kinda have a good feel for weather. When we arrived at the photo location, it was drizzling really lightly. Once it stopped, we capitalized on the gorgeous light that God gave us. It was awesome !

The reception was held at Shangri-La, where we were all treated to a delicious 12-course traditional chinese wedding reception. I didn’t get a chance to eat much because I was preparing a surprise same day edit (SDE) for them, but in the end, it was sooo worth it. I don’t really need to eat much anyways…2 Gatorades and I’m good to go, as most of my team knows.
So, my SDE did not go according to plan, initially. I had recently re-installed my OS on my MacBook Pro and didn’t put any applications on there, other than Lightroom. I had finished the edits and then realized that I had no way to put on something that would sync to music. I was desperate to get this playing at some point that evening. I even called my brother to go to my house to find my installation disc and drive it over to me. I still had a few hours before showtime. He had no idea where it was. Luckily, Evelyn, one of the bridesmaids, had her MacBook hooked up for the evening’s scheduled slideshows. During a break, she gave it to me and I loaded it up with my images…ran it off of iPhoto and voila ! SURPRISE !!! Thank you Evelyn !!! And thank you to my sidekicks, Francis and Heidi, for covering the entire time I was stressing !

It was a fun-filled day. Those 15 hours came and went ! And we enjoyed every second of it. What I love most about weddings is getting to know the bride and groom a whole lot more, via their family and friends. Lily and Colin are just two amazing people and after meeting a whole lot of their friends and family, it really validated what I thought of them when I first connected with them.
Lily and Colin. I still remember that day when we first met at my other office (a.k.a. Starbucks). Getting to know you two better was such a treat. And it was really fate that brought us together. Documenting your wedding was an absolute honor and I thank you a million times for choosing me, of the 1000+ photographers in the city, to be part of your special day. Being your ‘photograph-friend’ is an understatement. I can totally see our families grow old together. Congratulations again ! I hope you enjoyed your honeymoon in Paris![]()
