Finally, we get to the proposal. So how did Matt do it ? And what’s with the nudity in this story ?
I bring you The Proposal (written by Holly):
~ The Proposal ~
So it was another wintery February Friday that came dressed in an ice storm.
I was ready to start the 1.5 hour journey to his parents’ place and had heard on the radio that there was a major accident on the highway. Eager to see him as I was each Friday, I decided to take the back roads. Would be slow going but at least I would be moving, as opposed to the highway which had turned into a parking lot.
After spending 3 hours driving no faster than 50 km/hr, I arrived at his parents’ place.
The freezing rain was pelting down hard as I got to the door. Surprisingly, he came to the door and REFUSED to let me into the house. He handed me a flashlight and told me I had work to do and pointed to a sign on the door indicating that a Treasure Hunt had been set up for me.
Now, I’m not sure how you might feel after working all week, sleeping on a pullout couch, driving 3 hours, white-knuckled and to be told (while being slapped by a constant stream of freezing rain) that instead of a warm meal, shower and bed, you had to stay out there and wander around until you found the required item.
No pleading would do any good, so I headed out to the back yard with my flashlight. And when I say back yard, his parents live on 30 acres of land. For all I knew, there could be clues anywhere.
Thankfully the first clue was at the woodpile. A mere 15 minute walk through the knee-high snow. Soon enough, the final clue told me that I had “won” a romantic dinner with him and the dog.
Once I was inside the house, I became concerned. At this point it was nearing 8:30pm and there was no sign of supper being prepared. I didn’t mind so much traipsing through the wet snow as long as a warm meal, shower and bed were in my immediate future.
As my stomach grumbled, I asked if he had ‘a supper plan’. He reassured me that he did and suggested I might have a warm bath and sent me upstairs.
As I turned the corner I saw the candle and rose petal path leading me to the recently filled bathtub. In the bathroom was a bottle of wine we’d brought back on a recent trip that we’d said we’d save for a ‘special occasion’. In front of the tub was a little ‘shrine’ with our picture, more candles, roses and some chocolates.
Once in the warm tub, sipping a glass of wine, I reassessed the situation. While I wasn’t being fed, I was warm and had a glass of vino in my hand. Things were looking up.
A few minutes later, he appeared with a fold-out table and his laptop. He started a slideshow that he’d arranged with a collection of our photos taken over the years. The photos were set to music which (I found out later) was specifically chosen to go with the photos.
I could hear commotion downstairs and so was reassured that dinner was imminent.
He appeared again, this time in a change of clothes. Formal attire..?
He took me downstairs and I saw his parents kitchen table set with his grandmother’s china. You know, the stuff that is never actually used –ever.
Supper was a fantastic collection of my favourite dishes. After dinner he ushered me over to the fireplace.
He told me that he’d gotten me a present, which I just assumed was related to the mortgage approval. Something to celebrate.
He stood in front of me and in almost one motion with his shirt over his head and everything else to the floor he stood before me –naked.
Vulnerable and raw -and with tears in his eyes, pouring down to his trembling lip opened his arms and told me that this was all that he had to offer me –himself. And if that was good enough, if perhaps I might like to become his wife.
Wow, what a way to propose dude ! No shame whatsoever ! haha From now on, you’ll be known as Naked Matt ! Naked Matt, according to Holly, isn’t really shy about nudity. It’s a known fact that Matt has no problems changing in public. Most notably, he has been seen changing openly in the sidelines during the games of his coed soccer league.
