Year End Industry Party

Just when I thought my wedding season was over, I received this nice little surprise from a dear friend of mine, Cindy Johnson of Platinum Events Group.  It was an invitation to an exclusive party at the Ritz-Carlton Toronto.  A party where I do not have to ‘work’ ?  Sign me up !

How incredibly generous of Cindy to put on such an event which will include most of the powerhouses of the wedding industry.  It’s just a fantastic idea.  I’m thankful because I’m mostly Facebook friends with the guests in attendance and will now finally get to meet and chat with them outside of ‘work’ and via social media.  Being a full-time dad to 3 little boys, I don’t have the luxury to skip out of the house for drinks/dinners with people.  Some of guests I already know because I’m good friends with them outside of the industry, but the majority…well, it’ll be like a celebrity sighting to me LOL !  I’m looking forward to being in such great company.

Check out this little package that Cindy put together.  Pretty gorgeous if you ask me.  (Thanks for the spa certificate too, Cindy !)

The boxes and stationary were courtesy of everyone’s favourite stationary designer, Deb | Palettera.  Simple, classy and sophisticated.  I wouldn’t expect any less from these two.

These little cards have some of the weddings Cindy has worked with us on..and on the back of them were some quotes to live by.

This quote is classic Cindy J.

Oh, the beautiful Ritz.  It’ll be my 3rd time there in as many weeks.  Home away from home ?  I wish.

Not sure if I will be bringing my camera, so I don’t know if there will be a follow-up post to the party.  It may be messy:) But stay tuned.

Thank you again to Cindy Johnson for always giving…to your clients…and to your friends.

Cake Coma with Bloom Cake Co.

I ate cake for breakfast this morning.  Not sure if this is something I’m proud of or not, but it is what it is.  There is way too much cake in my fridge at the moment.  I think it’s time to freeze some, otherwise I may just double my weight by next wedding season.

As you know, we had an amazing, fun party for Jalen’s birthday on Sunday.  There was definitely no shortage of food or cake for that matter.  There is still left over cake (to our surprise) in our fridge.

Yesterday was Jalen’s actual birthday.  We decided to have a small, impromptu get together with our immediate families to celebrate on his birth date.  So, Jeaentte and I thought, “Maybe it’d be nice to have a small cake to eat and for Jalen to just smash.”  In a last minute request, we contacted our friend Sharon to see if she had time to make something simple and small for last night.   She told us she could make us maybe a 6″ and 5″ cake, which would serve the adults and then some cake ring pops for the kiddies.  Something simple and boyish was what we were guessing.  Cool.

I met up with Sharon yesterday around lunch at the kids’ school.  It was a sunny day, the boys were good that morning, so I drove them to school in my car thinking, “Ah, I don’t need that much room.  How big can a 6″ and 5″ cake be anyways.  I’ll just put the box in my front seat. That’ll work.”  I opened up her car door and saw this behemoth of a cake.  It looked amazing I almost cried.  She went above and beyond what we asked for and with such care and detail.  The crying part was mostly from my inner thoughts saying, “There’s no way in hell that is going to fit !”

Well, it did fit.  And that morning proved to be the most stressful drive home ever.  I still had to drop off Ethan at JK at another school 20 min away.  So, I had Ethan and Brandon in the back, this monster cake in the front seat with me….driving slowly.  The moment of truth…making a left turn.  I started turning, and then the cake started leaning…then it tipped over !  I stood it up again holding the side of the box.  And held it the entire drive to Ethan’s JK school.

Imagine me…driving with my right hand supporting the cake, left hand on the steering wheel, shifting with my left hand while my knee was holding the steering wheel. C’mon, you gotta give me props for that.

Anyways, here is what Sharon made for us <3:

How cute is this ?!?!?!! My favourite part was definitely the little bear at the top of the cake.  I loved the detail and especially the “1″ balloon at the top of the wire.  That was genius !  And the blanket — so cute !

Now, the ring pops came in these nice brown boxes. Ring pops…never had or seen them, so I was thinking some cake on a plastic finger ring.  It wasn’t just some cake.  It was a mini-cake !  wOOt !!!!!

There you have it….the reason for my cake coma.

Word to the wise…when you order your cake from Sharon, you might want to ask her how high the creation is going to be…and come prepared with the proper transportation. Because she definitely threw me off haha !  Or better yet, have HER deliver it !

Thank you Sharon for your incredible generosity and talent.

Happy 1st Birthday Jalen !!!

Today is a special day.

One year ago today, Jalen entered our lives.  I simply cannot believe we have reached his one year birthday.  Unbelievable.

As with all the kids birthdays, we go through all our gazillion family photos and put together some sort of slideshow to watch together.  When we sift through all the images, you can’t help but get a little emotional.  So many milestones were hit, so many diapers changed, lots of crying, cuddling and kisses.  Just amazing memories that seem like a blur, all captured through my camera.  I will cherish these photos forever.

As he grew, he seemed to look like Ethan…then Brandon…then Ethan…then Brandon.  Then about 6 months ago, he looked like…JALEN !  It’s amazing how much the kids looked like each other at the beginning.  But they all morphed into their own.  To this day, I still can’t believe we have 3 beautiful, healthy children.  All BOYS too ! (Yeah, it’s a busy household !)

This past weekend, we held his birthday party for his family and friends.  Again, our modest home was nearly packed to capacity.  Not the most number of kids ever in our home, but enough to drive one crazy LOL.

Jeanette slaved all week setting up the decor for the party.  Let me rephrase that, she had actually started planning the theme of the party many months ago.  That is Jeanette…super mom and party planner (for all ages!).  She spent many a night breastfeeding and surfing the internet sourcing out products to make this party exactly the way she imagined.  I had no idea what I was going to see.  I just saw items in my credit card from stores all over the USA and Canada.  And I think my party planning friends would be proud of what she came up with.

Here are some recent pics of Jalen and the actual party.

He definitely loves his new bike !  He’ll figure it out sooner or later that it’s not a walker.

Cool little hats for the kiddies.  They came in fishes, turtles, sharks and dolphins.  So adorable !

Check out this cake by our dear friends Stella and Madel of Delicately Yours !  How amazing is this ?!?!!  I think we just gave them a theme and this is what they came up with.  It matched all the decor perfectly !  Thank you so much girls ! You two are just so talented !  (You’ll get to know Madel very soon as I’m photographing her wedding next year !)

Ok, so that watermelon shark above….yeah, Jeanette made that ! WOW ! Amazing, babes !

The usual struggle to try to get a decent photo of the boys…

Apparently, in the chinese traditions, it’s customary to give the birthday boy the big fat chicken drumstick. (nom, nom, nom)

Jalen, I know you’re a little too young to know what it means when Mommy, Daddy, Ethan, and Brandon say “I Love You!”.  But I know you know what love feels like because we shower you with hugs and kisses all day long, like we do with your brothers.  You have been an absolute blessing.  Our family would not have been complete without you.  We hope you enjoyed your first cake and had a fun time getting bounced around from person to person.  Your family and friends love and adore you very much.

Happy Birthday Sweetie !

-Mommy, Daddy, Ethan and Brandon

* Thank you to everyone for their generous gifts and well wishes.  And an extra thank you goes out to all those who helped us during the day with photos/cinema and eating the food.:)
