My friend Dave…

Here is an article from the Toronto Sun about my friend Dave:

When I heard about his condition I was just floored. I couldn’t believe something like this can happen to one of my friends…and so young, too. I knew Dave from a mutual friends and also through university. He’s one of the funniest guys I have met and everyone loves him. He’s always willing to help anyone out.  I still remember him hooking me up with an interview for one of his old companies he worked for.  Didn’t get the job, but at least I got in front of some important people and left an impression.  Now he’s going through a rough time in his life and is in hopes of receiving a liver transplant. Which brings us to the topic of the Donor Card.  I am hoping to help him out by creating awareness of the best gift of all.

A few years ago, my wife and I sat down to discuss what we would like to do with our organs should an unfortunate incident shorten our life on this planet. This was a no-brainer. We asked ourselves, “What if we were really sick and needed an organ transplant…what would we do?” There are probably only 2 answers: (1) a miracle (2) an organ donor. The latter seemed like the most realistic answer. In fact, finding an organ donor is a miracle. We decided to sign our Donor Cards because we would hope that everyone else out there would ask themselves the same question.

When I was really young, I had a dream that God put me on this Earth to save a life. Pretty wild dream for a 6 yr old ! After all these years, I’ve been always on the lookout for situations to rescue someone in distress, foil an armed robbery, save someone from a burning house…you name it, I have looked out for it.  And after I saved someone’s life, my goal in life was complete.  After signing my Donor Card, I realized that I have saved a life.  It wasn’t in the past or present, but in the future.

So, I am hoping all of you this holiday season look past the gifts with monetary value and think about the priceless gift of all — LIFE.

Please pray for Dave and all those who are on the waiting lists for an organ/tissue donor.

Stay strong bro…we’re all with you !

I worked with Dave a couple of years ago. Time goes by quick and when I found out about what David is going through… my heart sank to the floor. He has been in my thoughts and prayers every day…
